The Fazer8 – serious performance, total versatility

Yamaha’s FZ range packages supersports performance into a versatile chassis for everyday enjoyment. The Fazer8 breathes new life into the mid-class bike category, with a bigger, broader spread of power out of the flexible FZ8 powerplant.

The Fazer8 is set up for comfortable, fast road riding wherever you take it – whether it’s a high-performance city journey or a week away exploring the continent at full throttle. The front cowl and screen add weather protection and improved aerodynamics to a powerful sports bike engine and handling package.

Hit the road with class, comfort, performance and confidence, every ride, every day.

Brand new for 2011

Yamaha is proud to announce two new motorcycles that open up a whole new class within the popular FZ sportsbike range - the FZ8 and the Fazer8. The FZ8-series is based on the idea of a high-performance all-rounder with the power and character to make every ride an exhilarating sports ride.

Following in the footsteps of the hugely successful FZ6-series - which, since 1998, has sold over 250.000 units - both bikes offer serious sports bike looks, outstanding handling and a flexible, powerful, torquey engine that encourages riders to explore its full potential.

It's an accessible kind of adrenaline: a shot of sportsbike energy, designed to be enjoyed every day.

These dynamic new sports machines are built on a new 779cc engine and all-aluminium frame. The engine offers a balance of middleweight accessibility with big-bore power and instant grunt throughout the rev range. It steers fast and effortlessly, and handles with surefooted confidence - whether it's cranked right over on a tight, smooth corner or slicing its way through traffic on a congested commute.

The naked FZ8 is a machine with attitude. Muscular, aggressive design gives onlookers a hint of this bike's serious intentions. Not a bike for beginners, the FZ8 is a pure expression of performance and quality craftsmanship.

With the semi-faired Fazer8, the emphasis is placed firmly on getting out there and enjoying the roads, whatever the weather. Discover sportsbike performance and handling, with the aerodynamics, wind and weather protection of a front cowl and screen. It's a solid step up in performance and quality.

779cc, liquid cooled, inline 4-cylinder engine

In order to arrive at the perfect power and torque spread for a mix of high performance and all-round usability, Yamaha threw out all preconceptions about engine size. The 1000cc and 600cc categories that largely divide the market are imposed by racing regulations, not road riding considerations. Many riders find 600cc supersport engines to be hard work on the open road - and 1000cc superbike engines to be overkill.

Yamaha's engineers selected a 779cc engine displacement to provide the perfect balance between the accessible performance of a 600 and the broad, instant torque and power of a litrebike.

The new FZ8-series engine is fuel injected, and uses both a throttle valve and an electronically controlled sub-throttle valve to provide additional control over intake airflow volume. The cylinder bodies have a bore and stroke from 68.0x53.6mm. Readings on engine rpm and throttle opening are processed in real time by the ECU, which operates a new stepping motor to control the sub-throttle valves and optimise volumetric efficiency in each part of the rev range. This is one of the many design considerations aimed at boosting low-middle drive.

Another key to the FZ8-series motor's flexibility is found in the large-capacity 7.8 litre airbox, where the air intake funnels are two different lengths - cylinders 1 and 4 have 125mm intake funnels, where 2 and 3 are 150mm in length, producing an excellent spread of torque throughout the rev range.

The FZ8-series engine produces 106.2PS (78.1kW) at 10,000rpm, and a generous 82.0Nm of torque at 8,000rpm - with a character that feels light, torquey and responsive down low but builds to a signature Yamaha top-end power rush.

It easily clears EU3 exhaust emission standards, using a short, side mounted muffler and a 4-into-2-into-1 exhaust system with a honeycomb type catalytic converter fitted at the point where the header pipes meet. An oxygen sensor feeds real-time exhaust information back to the ECU, allowing the bike to constantly adjust its air/fuel mixture for optimum efficiency and clean emissions.

Chassis and running gear

The FZ8-series features a new engine that is a stressed member in an all-aluminium frame. The design's high rigidity and low weight minimises frame torsion while providing outstanding high-speed stability and cornering confidence. The FZ8-series also uses a CF aluminium die-cast swing arm, enhancing the effectiveness of the rear suspension.

Front-end suspension is a pair of upside-down forks, running 43mm inner tubes. Rear suspension is handled by a linked Monocross unit - the link being designed to provide soft, light suspension near the top of the stroke to deal with bumpy surfaces in comfort, but then to provide firmer cushioning as the shock is further compressed, for sharper handling during hard cornering.

Front brakes are twin four-piston monoblock calipers, gripping 310mm floating front discs. Being monoblock designs, the calipers suffer minimal distortion under hard braking, so the stopping force is linear, stable and controllable when the chips are down. Both the naked FZ8 and semi-faired Fazer8 models are available with optional ABS.

The wheels are five-spoke cast aluminium rims - the front tyre is a 120/70 ZR17, and the rear is a 180/55 ZR17. This gives both bikes outstanding ride feeling, grip and cornering performance, with access to the full range of sports rubber.

The riding position is sporty but comfortable, with a seat height of 815mm and a narrow tank which gives the rider a good ground access. Overall ride experience is compact and light, with generous room for manoeuvring. Steering is quick and responsive, with an extended 33-degree left-to-right steering angle - making tight U-turns and peak-hour traffic busting much easier.

Muscular, mass-forward design

The FZ8-series consists of two models - the naked FZ8 and the semi-faired Fazer8 with a front cowl and screen. A short muffler, narrow tank and new 3-part tank cover instantly distinguish these bikes from their peers.

Visually, the FZ8 series evokes a pure release of energy in forward motion. The black side parts on the tank provide comfortable knee grip, and give the subtle impression that the coloured tank is breaking away and accelerating forward. The headlight unit on the naked FZ8 adds an aggressive-looking detail. In all, the visual impression is of a bike that looks fast even when it's standing still - and that sensually curved diamond frame and muscular 4-cylinder engine are still the stars of the show.

2011 Honda CBR250R

The all-new 2011 CBR250R brings a fresh take on the fun side of motorcycling, one that will appeal to a wide range of riders. Beginners and experienced hands alike will key in on the extreme versatility of this sporty, easy-to-ride and affordable new offering from Honda.

Thanks to its extremely efficient 249cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine—an all-new design featuring a sophisticated four-valve DOHC cylinder head, engine counterbalancer, PGM-FI fuel injection and more—this dependable and lightweight machine delivers nimble handling, a broad spread of easily accessible power and low operating costs all in one. Whether the day calls for a commute to work, quick trips around town or all-day explorations in the countryside, the CBR250R offers as much fun per mile as anything around, all at a price that just about anyone can afford.

If you’re looking for an affordable, smart, capable and fun way to enjoy life on two wheels—have we got a bike for you: the all-new Honda CBR250R!
The new, fuel-injected CBR250R offers everything you want in a first-time bike: Light weight. A powerband that’s immensely user-friendly. Excellent fuel economy. Unmatched reliability. And a fun factor that’s off the chart.

Since the new CBR250R is a Honda, it’s full of features few other bikes in its class can match. And it offers a build quality that means you’ve got dependable cross-town or cross-country transportation.

Best of all, the new CBR250R is available in two versions: the CBR250R and the CBR250R ABS with our Anti-lock Brake System – a first for the segment and a really valuable option that both first-timers and experienced riders will appreciate.

It's finally here! The bike Canadian riders have been clamouring for since the introduction of the wildly popular CBR125R has finally been unveiled to the world. And it's a stunner. The all-new Honda CBR250R is far removed from the sort of cut-corners, parts-bin special often found in this class – it's a true Honda sportbike loaded with sophisticated engineering and high-tech components. Check out the high-revving DOHC, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine with its impressive power-to-weight ratio, the sensuous VFR1200-style bodywork, and the sporty chassis. It's all top-shelf stuff. Sure, the CBR250R's light weight, user-friendly operation and comfortable size make it perfect for novice riders or those stepping up from the CBR125R. But if experienced riders overlook the CBR250R because they think engine displacement is the sole measure of a motorcycle's appeal, then they'll be missing out on a bike that's destined to redefine fun on two wheels.

Engine/Drivetrain

The all-new 249 cc single-cylinder engine has been purpose-built for the CBR250RA, and boasts such high-performance features as dual overhead camshafts driven by a Hy-Vo-type silent chain, forked roller rocker arms, a compact four-valve cylinder head, a counterbalance shaft, and liquid cooling.

The light and compact engine contributes to the CBR250RA's nimble steering, intuitive handling and impressive power-to-weight ratio, which allows it to outperform twin-cylinder bikes of similar displacement.

Shim-style valve adjustment allows easy inspection and maintenance, although with a recommended inspection interval of 48,000 km, you'll ride a long, long time between any needed adjustments.

The engine countershaft sits lower than the mainshaft in a "stacked" formation to further reduce the engine's front-to-back dimensions.

Bore and stroke measurements are equivalent to those of the CBR1000RRA's high-performance engine.

The engine produces a remarkably broad torque curve for strong low-rpm performance, and peak horsepower kicks in at 8,500 rpm-well before the 10,500-rpm redline. This wide spread of power makes the CBR250RA easy and confidence-inspiring to ride, in both stop-and-go situations and on the highway, while also returning impressive fuel economy.*

The crankshaft runs in plain bearings for quieter operation and the big end of the connecting rod spins in a needle bearing, both contributing to the engine's high-performance credentials.

A gear-driven counterbalance shaft helps quell engine vibration for enhanced rider comfort. It's located so close to the crankshaft that the balancer weight passes between the two crank weights to keep the engine as compact as possible while improving mass centralization.

Honda's Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) continuously monitors several variables to ensure the correct fuel mixture for the current riding and atmospheric conditions, thereby delivering optimal performance and remarkably crisp throttle response over a wide range of operating conditions, plus improved fuel economy.

The PGM-FI system incorporates an Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) to smooth responses to small changes in throttle position.

The CBR250RA's engine meets both EPA 49-state and Euro-3 emissions standards by incorporating the latest in exhaust and catalyzer technology. The tri-metal catalytic converter reduces the level of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrous oxides, while an oxygen sensor in the exhaust enables the engine's Electronic Control Unit to ensure complete combustion within the engine.

The six-speed transmission works in concert with the engine's broad power delivery to produce quick acceleration plus excellent fuel economy during highway cruising.*

*Fuel economy results were obtained by Honda under standardized testing conditions prescribed by WMTC. Tests are conducted on a rolling road using a standard version of the vehicle with only one rider and no additional optional equipment. Actual fuel consumption may vary depending on how you ride, how you maintain your vehicle, weather, road conditions, tire pressure, installation of accessories, cargo, rider and passenger weight, and other factors.

Chassis/Suspension

Diamond-shaped twin-spar steel frame plus a 37 mm front fork and Pro-Link single-shock rear suspension provide impressive handling and a comfortable ride.

The CBR250RA is the only bike in its class to offer the benefits of ABS. The CBR250RA's Combined Braking System with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) provides sure control on even difficult road surfaces.

Curb weight of only 165 kg (364 lb) gives the CBR250RA outstanding manoeuvrability and helps instill rider confidence.

Sporty ergonomics promote a balanced seating position for optimum control and long-distance comfort.

Full-sized 17-inch cast wheels with a 110/70 – 17 front tire and a 140/70 – 17 rear tire provide big-bike feel, grip and handling traits.

Additional Features

VFR1200-style full fairing with windscreen enhances aerodynamics while also deflecting the oncoming wind for excellent rider comfort.

Multi-function digital instrument panel includes speedometer, tachometer, engine temperature display, fuel gauge, clock, odometer and trip meter.

Fuel capacity of 13 litres gives the CBR250RA a cruising range of more than 320 kilometres.

An external fuel filter maximizes fuel tank capacity while also easing fuel filter maintenance.

Grab rails on the tail section are designed to fit gloved hands, giving passengers a dedicated handhold while riding two-up.

A handy underseat storage area adds to the CBR250RA's versatility.

2011 Honda CBR600RR

No other 600cc machine has won more magazine comparisons and AMA championships than Honda's CBR600RR. Striking the ideal balance of power and handling, the new CBR600RR blends a light and compact chassis with impeccable power delivery for a combination that's hard to beat. Also available with the Honda's unique Combined ABS for the pinnacle of sportbike braking performance, the 2011 CBR600RR continues to set the standard for the middleweight class.

Is Honda's CBR600RR the perfect sportbike? Plenty of riders think so. And it's easy to see why. First off, it offers a near magical combination of light weight, free-revving power, compliant suspension and all in a package that’s sized just right.

Next, the CBR600RR has been honed to perfection on the track, where it dominates the World Supersport championship scene. And then there's the CBR's awe-inspiring degree of Honda technology: tuned twin-spar frame, Programmed fuel injection, the Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) and Honda's available Combined ABS that all add up to put the CBR600RR way ahead of anything in the 600 class.

But at the end of the day, one thing stands out above all the rest: The CBR600RR is just a blast to ride. And isn't that why you're looking at sportbikes in the first place?

The amazing Honda CBR600RRA combines radical performance with everyday practicality in a way that you have to experience to believe. With most 600s, you get either a great track bike that's high-strung and uncomfortable on the street, or a great streetbike that lacks the right stuff for track days or race wins. With the CBR600RRA, we found a way to achieve superior track and street performance in one amazing bike. To top it off, this versatile motorcycle comes standard with Honda's innovative Electronically Controlled Combined ABS — the first Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) designed specifically for the unique demands of sportbikes.

Breakthrough Braking
The CBR600RR's Combined ABS is the first of its kind on a Supersport machine. The experts are unanimous: brakes like these are a huge step forward. They love them, and you’re going to love them even more. Find out how this revolutionary feature works.

Honda Electronic Steering Damper
Compact, unobtrusive and there when you need it, the Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) helps maintain smoothly predictable high-speed handling and low-speed maneuverability. It's a huge breakthrough in predictable, responsive handling.

A Leader on the track and off
The CBR600RR flat out OWNS the World Supersport Championship. Follow Honda's string of victories and catch up on Team Honda's racing highlights, including classes like MotoGP and Moto2 as well.

Combined Anti-Lock Braking (C-ABS) - All-new, electronically controlled Combined ABS distributes brake force over both wheels, helping to maintain braking confidence in less than ideal conditions. Electronic measurement of rider input on each brake lever permits application of only the front or rear brake in some cases, while the system combines both brakes in others.

Unit Pro-Link Suspension - By eliminating the frame-mounted top shock mount, Unit Pro-Link isolates the chassis from bumps, resulting in more precise handling and better traction. Developed on Honda's championship-winning MotoGP bikes, it's a perfect example of the CBR's superior engineering.

Centrally Located Fuel Tank - The centrally located fuel tank increases mass centralization for a more compact frame design.

Dual-Stage Fuel Injection - Two sets of injectors per cylinder ensure both low- and high-rpm performance. You get near instantaneous high-rpm response, along with great low-rpm metering and clean running.

Line-beam Headlights - Line-beam headlight features two-piece reflector design utilizing two H7 bulbs for optimum light distribution and unique compact design. The result: the headlight helps you see better, and also helps make you visible to traffic.

Ram Air - Wind resistance is a sportbike's enemy. The CBR600RR takes that high-pressure air and channels it through the ram air ducts mounted under the fairing's chin to help boost engine performance.

Honda Multi-Action System (HMAS) Inverted Fork - The HMAS cartridge fork features an exclusive internal piston construction. The innovative design employs smaller-diameter pistons to keep oil velocity high for improved damping characteristics and an expanded range of adjustability. The result: you get more precise suspension performance, especially over smaller surface irregularities.

Radial Mounted Front-Brake Calipers - The CBR600RR's radial-mounted monoblock front-brake calipers are stiffer, for better brake feel and performance. Each caliper uses four chromium-plated aluminum pistons that squeeze lightweight 310mm floating discs for exceptional stopping power.

2011 Kawasaki Z1000

It’s a rare thing: a new from the ground up motorcycle that feels so right and works so well right out of the crate that it has the press swooning and owners crooning. These well-sorted but rare bikes are often described as “happy motorcycles,” and it’s become crystal clear during the last year that Kawasaki’s Z1000 – completely redesigned in 2010 – is a very happy machine. It’s a realization that comes after just a mile or two in the saddle, and it’s one that confirms the fact that this motorcycle’s design team worked a special bit of magic during development.

The Z1000 thrills before you even jump aboard, with some of motorcycling’s most rakishly stunning lines and body shapes. The aesthetic showcase begins with a low-mount front cowl that slopes back radically, highlighting the Z’s prow and, behind it, an adjustable instrument cluster featuring a multifunction LCD display covered by a trick-looking orange lens. The headlight represents Kawasaki’s first-ever use of a line-beam unit, the guts of which are integrated nicely into that angled cowl. Moving rearward, you come to a shapely fuel tank that’s flared on the sides to let you grab it with your knees and that’s trim at the back for a snug fit. The seat is low and narrow at the front to make ground contact easy, and flows beautifully rearward to end in a futuristically retro LED taillight behind a red lens. It’s a thoroughly athletic shape, one sure to garner attention wherever it’s ridden.

Totally redesigned just last year, the Z features a wide range of new-think moto technology, including an aluminum frame similar to the ZX™-10R’s that curves over the engine, cradling it from above. The design allows a narrow mid-section, which fosters a high degree of rider comfort and feedback in addition to keeping weight low and chassis rigidity high. The engine bolts solidly to the frame in three places, stressed-member-style, and there’s also a rubber mount at the upper rear crankcase area for added vibration damping and torsional rigidity. The main frame and swingarm pivot elements are cast as a single unit, with welds eliminated wherever possible for a more aesthetically pleasing look. And the subframe is a lightweight aluminum die-casting, which is light, smooth and beautiful.

Suspension at both ends is thoroughly modern and wickedly functional: a beefy, fully adjustable 41mm inverted fork up front and a spring preload and rebound damping adjustable horizontal back-link shock is mounted above the swingarm to shield it from exhaust heat and foster an added degree of mass centralization. Wheel control is simply superb, and the substantial feedback sent to the rider makes it easy to know exactly what’s going on at the bike’s contact patches.

The heart of every naked bike is its engine, so Kawasaki engineers paid special attention here for maximum, arm-straightening impact: Dual cams. Sixteen valves. 1,043cc. Liquid cooling. High compression. A long stroke – 56mm – for instantaneous thrust. Six speeds. And digital fuel injection. It’s all there.

The result? This inline-four packs impressive horsepower combined with the sort of flexible, mid-range-heavy power delivery that pastes a silly grin on the face of anyone lucky enough to be aboard. From nearly any rpm, rolling the Z1000’s throttle provides the kind of instant gratification most sportbikes just can’t quite muster, all with silky smooth, highly intoxicating response.

There’s more, of course. Check out the Z’s five-spoke wheels, with spokes machined near the rims for a custom look. We carried forward the quad-pipe theme from the last Z1000 (and the first Z-1), but an under-engine pre-chamber lets engineers use shorter mufflers for great looks and better mass centralization. A solid-mount handlebar and aluminum footpegs lifted from the Ninja® ZX-10R contribute to the Z1000’s quality, top-shelf feel. Brakes? Totally modern: Radially mounted calipers, Ninja-spec 300mm petal-type rotors and a radial-pump master cylinder all provide the latest in braking feel and feedback.

Key Features
- 1,043cc inline-four with DFI produces a massive amount of torque
- Lightweight aluminum frame specifically designed for the Z1000
- Fully adjustable inverted front fork with settings designed for sporty performance
- Horizontal rear monoshock features stepless rebound damping and spring preload adjustability
- Radial-mounted four-piston front brake calipers and radial-pump front brake master cylinder combine with 300mm discs to provide superior stopping power
- Digital instrument panel tilts to accommodate different viewing angles
- Aggressive styling makes a bold fashion statement

DOHC, 16-valve 1,043cc Engine
- Liquid-cooled inline-four offers substantial power at all rpm levels, providing effortless acceleration in almost any situation
- Bore and stroke dimensions of 77.0 x 56.0 mm offer the best possible balance of peak power and low- and mid-range flexibility
- 38mm downdraft throttle bodies allow intake air to travel to the engine in the shortest possible distance
- Oval sub-throttles help keep the engine slim – a good thing since the throttle bodies are positioned between the rider’s knees
- Soft rev limiter provides good overrev character; power doesn’t drop off suddenly at high rpm
- The crankshaft is positioned low in the crankcase assembly to allow a longer stroke without adding engine height
- A secondary balancer, driven off a gear on the sixth web of the crankshaft, eliminates excess vibration

Cool Air System
- The intake system routes cool air to the airbox from ducts above the radiator shrouds, minimizing performance loss due to heated intake air
- Positioning the ducts close to the rider allows the intake sound to be heard – and enjoyed – by the rider
- A resonator inside the airbox reduces noise at low rpm, and enhances intake sound at high rpm

Exhaust System
- The exhaust system features a 4-into-2-pre-chamber-into-2 layout. Silencer end-caps maintain the quad-style image
- Main and pre-catalyzers provide cleaner emissions
- Thanks to the under-engine pre-chamber, silencer volume is reduced, and silencer weight is low. Exhaust system offers excellent mass centralization and contributes to a low center of gravity

Fuel Tank
- Slim-type fuel pump features an integral fuel gauge
- Fuel tank design and slim-type fuel pump minimizes unused volume inside the tank; fuel capacity is 4.0 gallons

Aluminum Backbone Frame
- Aluminum backbone frame designed specifically for the Z1000 (and similar in concept to the Ninja® ZX™-10R’s) helps make the bike narrow and easy to grip with the knees for maximum rider comfort and feedback
- Lightweight and highly rigid, the frame uses the engine as a stressed member for a firm, planted feeling and enhanced stability
- Frame is tuned to transmit the ideal level of engine feedback directly to the rider
- The frame’s five-piece construction consists of steering stem, left and right main frames, and two cross pieces. The two main frame components have open C-shaped cross sections
- As much as possible, welds were eliminated for simplicity and appearance. The frame beams and swingarm brackets are now single die-cast pieces
- The frame uses four engine mounts; three mounts are rigid, while the upper rear crankcase mount is rubber
- The rear sub-frame is a three-piece aluminum die-casting construction, which is light, strong and optimizes mass centralization
- The sub-frame is an example of form and function combined, negating the need for side covers and allowing underseat narrowness for a shorter reach to the ground

Horizontal Rear Monoshock
- Rear suspension design positions the shock unit and linkage above the swingarm where it’s less exposed to exhaust heat and contributes to mass centralization
- Visible from the outside, the horizontal monoshock contributes to the Z1000’s aggressive appearance
- Linkage characteristics are the same as those of a standard Uni-Trak® rear suspension: Wheel movement versus shock stroke is the same ratio
- The shock features stepless rebound damping and spring preload adjustability

Fully Adjustable Fork
- The Z1000’s 41mm inverted fork is adjustable for compression damping, rebound damping and spring preload – and is protected from harm by a cool-looking shroud
- Settings are designed for both sporty performance and excellent comfort

Handlebar, Grips and Footpegs
- The tubular handlebar is rigid mounted, contributing to sharp, direct handling
- A wide, flat bend handlebar offers a design similar to those on off-road bikes for excellent control
- Tapered-type grips, like those used on supersport models, offer a more direct feel
- Ninja ZX-10R-style footpegs with knurled surfaces offer good grip, direct feel and control, and no-nonsense looks
- The passenger footpeg brackets incorporate convenient luggage hooks

Brakes
- The Z1000’s 300mm front petal-style brake discs are gripped by opposed four-piston radial-mount calipers. (Caliper piston size is 4x30 mm)
- A radial-pump front brake master cylinder contributes to the superb control and feel offered by these high-end calipers
- The rear brake is a single piston, pin-slide caliper gripping a 250mm petal-style disc. The caliper is mounted below the swingarm, and located by a torque rod

Instrumentation
- A distinctive tilting instrument panel with multifunction LCD display behind an orange lens covers all systems
